Drink the Cup

Today's reading: Deuteronomy 31:8

One of the most daunting mountains to block our way is the high peak that requires our bold or sacrificial action in the name of the Lord. A lifetime of preparation often comes down to a singular decision.

Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, described a supreme example of this. He wrote in his diary what it was like in the room that day for the fifty-six men who signed the declaration: “Do you recollect the pensive and awful silence which pervaded the House when we were called up, one after another, to the table of the President of Congress to subscribe to what was believed by many at that time to be our death warrants?” Even though their signatures meant a death sentence by the British, they were willing to take that step and entrust their lives to God.

We don’t know what our futures will hold, but we can be confident the Almighty is there inviting us to trust Him to move this next mountain. He will give us an important cup to drink to fulfill His unique purposes in our life. His strength will be present as we engage a situation that requires personal sacrifice. Will we accept his invitation and experience His glory in our life?
